Kind of funny actually. My take on the true short magnums is that I really don't need a short light, loud hard kicker for much of anything. The 300 WSM being a pretty buckish round in a light rifle. To me a magnum is for situations where I might take advantage of more fps or energy. In that case a medium weight rifle with a 24-26 inch barrel is just right. Many of them feed "roughly" to say the least. If I had to pick a favorite it would be the 7mm SAUM. Simply because it matches the 280AI but I already have a nice 280AI on a rifle configured to suit my taste. In short the short magnums filled a niche I had no use for.
