Default Savage Model 42 Takedown

Thinking of getting a Savage Model 42 Takedown for a truck gun. Leaning mostly towards the 22 Mag/410 version. The online reviews seem pretty good but I'm wondering if any members here have any actual experience with them?

Can't tell you anything about the 42 but I had the old 24v which is what the 42 is based off of I imagine. Killed a ton of squirrels and rabbits with that little combo. I gave it to one of my cousins kids for a Christmas present some years ago. Always went bang and honestly, for what it was, it was an accurate little rifle. If that plastic stuff 42 shoots as well as my old 24v you wont be disappointed in any way.

I had a 24 in 222 over 20ga, pretty decent wood, surprisingly accurate, didn't balance great for a shotgun, nor really well for a rifle, but somewhere between. D@mned handy for coyotes though. Always wished I had one in 22-250 over 12ga. Personally, I think it's a model which was (re)released in an era too late for its style. Some old world type guys will still appreciate the appeal of a combo gun, so it might be right up your alley, but it's doomed to be stuck with ONLY a low cost plastic furniture model in this day and age, if it even gets to stick around at all.
