My Savage 99 Update!
I posted several months ago that I had found and bought one of my "bucket list collectibles!" A Savage 99, in .300 Savage caliber, with a El Paso made Weaver K4, with the Post reticle!
I had a hard time finding ammo and did not have the time to fool around with it until the last couple of weeks. As near as I can tell, it was made in the 40's and is in very good shape!
I found a box of Federal 180 Gr. Soft Points and some Rem. Core-Locts 150 Gr. PSP's.
The 99 didn't like the Fed. 180's, but after finding loose base screws, I was able to start zeroing the Weaver K4. After multiple adjustments, I am getting close to 1' groups with the Rem. 150's!
So pleased, that I am considering using the 99 as my gun-of-choice this season! My only concern now is scope fogging! I recon we'll see!

The 300 Savage killed a lot of deer. And the 99s show up on the used rack around here sometimes. Every one of the looks like it has had its share of time in the woods. I know its a classic rifle and I like the looks of them too. But they just don't fit me and feel awkward in my hands. I think it is probably the way the weight is distributed on them.
