257 weatherby
#1

I got left a 257 weatherby rifle when my uncle passed and I wanna start using it rather than let it sit and collect dust. Here is where the problem comes in, for one I know nothing about these calibers and for two it wld be used on deer and my shots are all fairly close(inside 200 yards). Can this be done in the range I hunt? Also what bullet wld be the best considering the range.

Undecided on using factory ammo simply BC I Don't know what works better. I think it wld work

factory ammo would work, but the impact would be pretty serious, a bullet hitting a deer at around 3500 fps does a lot of damage. that's why I suggested loading to 3100 fps, will work well to beyond 400 yards but not JELLIFY the close ones

OK gotcha. Well that's the route I need to go then. Wow 3500 fps. Man that's moving!!

if you really plan on using at 200 yards and less i would load it way down you will tear that dear in half and if you make a bad shot in the spine or shoulder there will be a lot of meat loss and that would be a shame !
