Does your gun have a clip??
Lookn to see how many people have guns with clips?.......I preffer a clip to the top feed guns. does know if it is much qiucker but makes for easier unloading.
some say the clips make a bit more noise and rattle what do you think? Stand corrected yes a magazine. we call them clips up here.....:) |
RE: Does your gun have a clip??
I bet your gun doesn' t have a clip unless it is an M1 Garand. I bet you are talking about a magazine. A clip doesn' t have a spring and is used to charge a magazine. I have one rifle that has a detachable magazine and I am always afraid I will forget it. I prefer the internal magazine. No muss, no fuss, no noise, no falling out of the gun.

RE: Does your gun have a clip??
I have one detatchable magazine and the rest have floorplates.I never load or unload any of the rifles with floorplates from the top.I open the floorplate to both load and unload the magazines.I will not own a rifle with a blind magazine.

RE: Does your gun have a clip??
I love clip fed rifles. The clip for my rifle holds 8 rounds. The clip is held nice and tight inside the rifle. The clip makes a loud Tinggggg! sound to let you know when its empty and that the rifle is hungry. [&:]

Briman, don' t you just love that loud tingggg sound when the clip goes flying? Nothing else like it in the world.

RE: Does your gun have a clip??
Well, all of my long guns have magazines, except for the single shots and double bbls, some of my handguns do too...but not many of my hunting rifles have DETACHABLE magazines. Typically, feeding is less reliable in Detach mags, sometimes this can lead to a problem with accuracy too. I don' t really know of any guns I' ve owned that rattled in the mags, although I tend not to buy magazines that aren' t new. One thing you' ve got to consider, a 5rnd magazine isn' t going to rattle, be it clip fed, box or blind mag, or a detach mag, yes, there are cheap hi-cap mags that are almost worn out out there that rattle pretty bad when half loaded, but they aren' t legal equipment for most game anyway.
Most of my rifles are lever actions, real lever actions, not cheesy " we' ve at least got to make one lever gun" models, so they' re tube mags, I' ve got several bolt guns, only one of which has a detach mag (springfield), of course all of my semi' s have detach mags, except my garands and my .22lrs. In action types where it could go either way, I typically prefer a blind or box mag for hunting (varmints excluded), feeding is always more reliable, and when do you really need an extra round over 5rnds, let alone a whole other magazine full? That' s called " spraying and praying" , not hunting. |
RE: Does your gun have a clip??
Some of my guns have detactable magazines.I don' t have any that uses what are called clips. The detactable mag has advantages but can also have disadvantages.I don' t mind having to drop the floorplate on other rifles. Since I only have to unload them a time or two a day it' s no big deal.

RE: Does your gun have a clip??
big question guys.. i have a Win M70 30-06 it has a floorplate.. it loads fine, shoots fine, but when its time to go home and unload I open the floor plate and the thing that compresses the shells uptowards the feeder comes off the bottom of my plate everytime... do I need to get a new spring or take it to a gunsmith and let him attach it some how.. I mean it stays fine until you open it then you have to bend down and pick up the spring and the little metal feeder
|
RE: Does your gun have a clip??
floor plate.

RE: Does your gun have a clip??
my pistoland my 2 22s have detachables...and my mauser is internal and no floorplate...it is my deer rifle and i never load more then 1 round in the gun so unloading is nothing unsafe and no cycling 5 rds through or anything...i was taught to hunt with 1 round in the gun...and now that im old enough to make my own choices i still choose to do it that way....no need to have more in there then that...if i cant do it with the first one im not supposed to be out there....im supposed to be on the bench

RE: Does your gun have a clip??
What' s unsafe with a rifle with a blind magazine? You don' t need to chamber a round to get it out of the magazine, just move the bolt forward ahead until the round pops out of the magazine. I' ve never heard of a mauser or pushfeed type of rifle firing out of battery. With a blind magazine, you get the utmost simplicity- not bent magazine springs, no followers dropped in the snow or mud, and now warped floor plates or damaged releases to cause problems.

Do you hunt from a bench?LOL[:-] |
RE: Does your gun have a clip??
i' ve got a couple rifles and shotguns with detachable magazines ,
browning lightning blr .270, ruger 77/22 hornet , remington model 700 mountain rifle dm 7mm-08, savage m99c .243, remington m760 bdl gamesmaster .308 , winchester m88 .308 , western field bolt action shotgun 16 guage , marlin m25n .22 lr , wish i had one of those old garands with the clip magazines though but , it' s not in the cards right now :D:D:D |
RE: Does your gun have a clip??
I only own two now with detachable magazines. I used to own several, but I' ve been getting rid of my cheaper foreign battle rifles in favor of high quality firearms. The result has been a reduction in the total number of guns I own, but a significant increase in total value and quality.
Anyway, the two I own with detachable mags are: Ruger 10/22 .22LR American Heroes 9/11/01 Special Edition Glock 21 (.45ACP) All the rest have fixed tubular magazines (2 pump shotguns), fixed internal magazine w/ floorplate (Ruger Model 77VT 22-250), or no magazine at all (3 muzzleloaders and cap' n' ball revolver). I wish I had an M1 Garand, which is the only truly " clip-fed" weapon I can think of. Does anyone know of any more guns that are actually fed from clips, excluding the stripper-clips for speed loading magazines? Mike |
RE: Does your gun have a clip??
I have a Winchester 30-06 Breach loader.... I am thinking of changing it to a clip model..[:-][:-][:-] Good Luck & Happy Hinting |
RE: Does your gun have a clip??
I' ve got my Garand in 308 and I' m taking it to the woods for the first time this year.
|
RE: Does your gun have a clip??
navhunter, you better double check your garand. it should be a 30-06 not 308.
|
RE: Does your gun have a clip??
My Tikka has a clip.
|
RE: Does your gun have a clip??
popeye i belive that recently springfield produced a new batch of garands with some of them in .308. in fact i may have seen one at the store recently

RE: Does your gun have a clip??
freaking double post
|
RE: Does your gun have a clip??
my remington 7400 30-06 has a detachable magazine and i like it alot the magazine is always in the gun when i get to the woods i pop it out and load it then toss it back in and when im leaving drop it out remove the ammo and put the mag. back in never had a single rattle its my first semi auto rifle and im very happy and its much easier to load and unload over my marlin 336w 30-30 you have to basiclly chamber every round to unload that thing and with the exposed hammer it worried me sometimes even with the safety on so im happy with the magazine on the 30-06

RE: Does your gun have a clip??
When a bunch of us up here in Maine get together to shoot, be it rifles, shotguns, bows, pistols, whatever. The subject always turns to guns and anything related to guns. NOT ONCE have I ever heard someone refer to a clip as a " Detatchable Magazine."
Yeah, yeah, I know that TECHNICALLY there is a difference, but I bet you don' t tell somebody you have to wash your " autmobile." You probably say car or truck. |

RE: Does your gun have a clip??
I stand corrected. I never knew anyone had made a Garand in 308. I learn something new all the time.
|
RE: Does your gun have a clip??
I shoot a 61 year old .303 Brit. ,so yes mine has a clip.... oops I mean magazine.Only rifle in Canada that can still use a 10 shot clip.... darn there I go again. Never had any noise problems, gee I wonder why. :D

RE: Does your gun have a clip??
.308 garands are fairly common. Its usually done to garands that have shot out barrels or owners who want to build a more accurate service rifle from the garand. The big upside is that 7.62 nato surplus ammo is easy and cheap to get, while the older .30 ball ammo is getting pretty expensive.
