Default Deer hunting with Remington 870 12GU

Like the title says I have an Remington 870 12 gauge and am planning to deer hunt state land this fall.

Looking to get it set up with the most accurate barrel/choke I can.

Currently I have a 28" barrel on it but am not sure how to tell exactly what barrel it is.

Any advice would be great.

Thanks

You will want a fully rifled barrel and scope combo then.
Cabelas has them http://www.cabelas.com/product/Remin...h-All+Products

Thanks a lot that's what I was thinking, can you interchange scopes with this barrel or does it have to be a specific mount?

I have one of those rifled barrels for my 870. The scope bases are made for that cantilever, and the rings will work for any 1" scope tube.

Great thanks a lot.

How do you like the barrel?

Had one in the past, extended my shooting range to 150y using Remington Accutips. With the old smoothbore barrel my comfortable shooting range was 75y.

Try several different sabot rounds to see what shoots best in your new barrel.

Like mentioned above fully rifled barrel would work best but if you cant spend the money for the setup this year just put in your improved choke and sight your gun in with federal tru-ball slugs, they shoot remarkably well out of a smooth bore barrel. I used them two years and i they would put out 1" groups at 80yds.

So I went ahead and bought the remington fully rifled barrel with cantelivered scope.

Going to site it in this weekend. Bought two different types of sabot slugs one 2 3/4 & one 3". I don't see myself taking a shot at any more than 75-85 yards unless I can't resist and have a great shot.

Any opinions on specific sabot slugs to use and if there is really a huge difference between 2 3/4" & 3"?

Thanks
