Default Advice on .22 WMR

I'm going to get a 22 mag this summer. So far, I've only looked at 3 models. CZ 455, Ruger American and Browning T-Bolt.
The CZ is the best looking gun, but I don't care for the safety, and I've heard of issues with scope mounting due to the bolt throw. I like the Ruger tang safety and 60 deg bolt, but I'm not to keen on the plastic stock. I don't have any experience with the T bolt, but the rest of the gun looks very nice.

Any thoughts on these or other models? I'll use it mostly for mid-range (100-150 yard) varmints.

Buddy has a T bolt, and he likes it very much. I have had a few of the levers, and I enjoyed them. Find the one that fits you best, and go from there. Can't say anything good or bad about the CZ, as I have never used one. Rugers are great, and their warranty is excellent. 22 mag is a great little cartridge, and is effective.

I had a Marlin .22 mag that was a fine shooter no complaints about it other than the price of the .22 wmr ammo.

Just got a ruger american 22mag last week got a leupold 3-9 on order for it. Just got and email from boyds they now have a laminated stock for it. Might get it down the road. Seen targets from others before I bought mine and they where really impressive. All with win super x ammo. Have a marlin 25 mn nice rifle but seems to all ways have a flyer no matter the brand of ammo used. Have and old Mossberg 22 mag nice gun worst trigger can do nothing for it. don't like the safety of the Cz always herd they where good rifles.also when you can find it Wal-Mart has win super x hollow points for about $13. Not bad same price as the 17 hmr.

I remember buying 22 mag ammo at Hecks for $3.88 per 50. all I shoot anymore is federal 50 gr HP's, absolutely hammer turkeys and fox, and coyotes within 100 yards

If I were you I'd just get a 223/556 based on the current and never to end 22 situation

Kinda premature to say that the current 22lr supply shortage is never going to end. The RECENT 223rem and 9mm shortages ended, and both of those were driven by the same exact motivational influencer, so why would you suggest that rimfire ammunition will never be available again? Frankly, there are 17HMR and 22WMR rounds on the shelf near me, so the 22lr shortage is a completely moot conversation for this topic.

Personally, I'd recommend the CZ455 out of that group. I have Savage and Marlin 22lr and 17HMR's, I think they're worthy contenders to make a selection list as well, but I was more than content with my CZ 452 (was discontinued and replaced by the 455), sad I ever let it go.

I could list my reasons, but I won't. I'm not looking for a jury trial or debate. Believe me, I love the 22 mag, I just think there are better things to do in life besides chase ammo.

It seems to me the cheapest 556/223 is better than the best 22 mag. There is also the cost factor compared to a cheap box of Nato for what you are getting. I think ole Winchester X22MX Super X is as good as it needs to be, but try finding a stockpile of that. That leaves you the higher dollar selection (IF) you can find it.

All 3 calibers have about the same effect on small game, the WMR is less effective for everything else.

Its a personal choice for sure but if you grab one of those little Ruger 77 compacts or Rem Model sevens instead of a 22 Mag, you'll never look back.

Best of luck to ya!
