I know too many Hunters that have bought and shot the 300 Win's and ended up selling them (for a lot less money than they paid) and buying a Rifle that was easier on recoil and shell prices!

Its not always the size of the Caliber but the Accuracy and shot placement in the Hunter/Shooter.I'd look at the 7mm-08,.308 and even the .270 WSM if You want power and speed in a Rifle!

Shoot the 30-06, learn to shoot it well. Your better off knowing one rifle well than trying to use a lot of rifle's mediocre. Good luck.

+1 for the 270WSM...I absolutely love mine and loaded with 140g AccuBonds it's just plain bad medicine on anything I have hunted from whitetails to Montana Mulley's to Elk!

That being said, my brothers '06 kicks worse than my 300WM...same rifle, both pre-64 Model 70's...

Why do you despise the 06?i despise the 08 but thats just because it doesnt handle heaveir bullets as well as the 06,my favorite grain for a 30 cal is 180.

Save your money and use it to go hunting. No sense fixing something that isn't broken.
This is the best advice.

Long story...but IMO the 30-06 is the most overrated caliber there ever was...I'll take any of the 308's in my safe over an -06 any day...just me. Two bad experiences years ago (which were both probably the result of crappy bullets more than the rifle... now that I am a little more educated)...I don't need a heavier bullet...150's and 165's do everything I have ever asked of them and everything I have ever needed...just more accurately and with less recoil. But then again, I am not commonly considered a heavy bullet guy...tend to shoot at the lighter end of the spectrum in most my rifles. Fast and flat...some people don't like the 270 the way I do...I just don't like the -06.

I love my .270...I use it for deer and varmints! I wouldn't be scared to take an elk or bear with it either...

I do like shooting my ar-10...but that gets expensive quick...and right now its hard to find ammo... or I haven't really looked too much..

I agree, I love my 257 weatherby! I really love my 300 weatherby more and that's what I use mostly out west. I hunt in florida and the 257 weatherby(4 sale) is a beast! But rarely use it. As I use my AR15 more.
