I have recently decided to get a .17HMR to do some target shooting. All I have heard are good things about this gun. I know there has to be a few guys here that have one. What do you like and dislike about the gun you bought? Which brand is standing out as a front runner?

Savage, marlin, or CZ, that's where it's at for supreme rimfire accuracy. Take your pick for which one fits you the best or has the look you prefer. I have or have had all 3 of these rifles, except the CZ was in 22 and 22mag, not 17. All of them were "tack drivers" with the right ammo.

I put a Leupold VX-I on my Ruger .17...the chipmunks don't like it much!

I had a Savage 93-17 heavy barrel and it shot fantastic. but after a year or 2 I decided I didn't need the extra weight and I sold it and bought another 93-17 with the std. sporter barrel. But this one has the accu-trigger. Between the 2 there is absolutely no difference in accuracy that I can tell - but a big weight difference. I've already take 3 turkeys with this little rifle and squirrels within 75 yds are in major trouble.

My 17 is a bit different...it's a Browning T-Bolt. I love the little sporter (stainless, walnut) and it shoots great. The straight pull bolt is faster than the turn bolt, and the rotary mag functions well. I highly recommend it.

My bro in law has the savage w std barrel & accutrigger. Tack driver.

I had the Savage with a heavy barrel and accutrigger. It was not what I would call a tack driver by any means, but it was OK. Mine only shot one brand of ammo with any accuracy at all. I would bet on hitting a tennis ball every time at 100 yards, but anything smaller would have been a matter of luck.

I have a Savage Model 93, heavy barrel, accu-trigger (wood stock)...it's a tack driver and I paid under $300 for it new at Cabelas. I really enjoy shooting it...detachable mags are easy to find and are inexpensive. I looked at several before I found this one (needed one in left handed so not as many choices) and would certainly buy it again. Can't say I have found anything I don't like about it considering the price and accuracy...on a good day I can split playing cards on edge @ 50 yards...

i have an older savage, wood stock heavy barreled accutrigger, very accurate gun. If you could find one reasonably priced if probably lean towards a cz tho
