Question Best Lever Action Rifle?

So out of no where I have this urge to buy a lever action rifle. I was thinking maybe a Marlin 30-30, or something along those lines. Any suggestions? What is the "best" for the money? How much am I gonna be looking at spending?

The older Marlins were great rifles. Before you buy a new one try and read the reviews on them. I believe the new ones are very problematic. I forget the details but the article I read made them sound like they were junk.

Browning makes a beauty. I like the 308. A great deer rifle.

cant go wrong with a marlin 30-30 in my opinion.
you could get as extravagant as you wanted with henry golden boys and such, however i would just go with the marlin.

I would look for a used older Marlin in .30-30 or .35 remington. You should be able to get a nice one for less than $400.

A BIG DITTO!! with emphasis on an older Marlin in .30/30, or better yet find one chambered in .35 Remington, They can be had pretty reasonable now, but I think it is a gun that is sure to increase in value. jmop

My son has a Winchester 94, i have a Marlin 336, i prefer the Marlin. What are you gonna hunt with it? If it's medium sized game it's tough to beat a Marlin in 30/30 . If you want the option of being able to hunt elk you can get the Marlin 308 express or look @ the Browning BLR,{the 30/30 will also kill elk} that rifle is available in a wide range of calibers up to 338 Win. mag.

x2 on an older marlin. i've heard a good bit of problems on the new ones. you could also opt for a win 94. I also see that mossberg makes some too. I'm not to familiar with mossberg's centerfires but if they are like their shotguns they ought to be good.

I echo the above concerns on the new Marlins (new = stay away, old = any day). The Browning BLR rifles are well made and tight but more $. I've heard some good ramblings on the Mossberg's... especially at their price point.
