I personally have never owned or touched one...a lot of threads out there claim that this particular model of remington is a piece of junk...I hope you got the exception...cheers/bg

The Rem 770 has had issues and detractors. Wish you got a 700 instead. Good luck though.

Mant people complain about the 770 even though most have never held one much less fired one. In reality, many folks shoot less than a box of ammo a year and go hunting once or twice. For this crowd, the 770 will be fine.

If you want an honest opinion, you bought a piece of junk.

However, if you just want to shoot half a box of shells a year through it shooting a couple of deer, it will likely last you quite a while.

Glad you like it and are enthused about the shooting sports. There are many better rifles out there, but for what you probably paid you likely got a decent tool for killing deer and punching a little paper.

If you keep it clean, shoot less than 50 rounds of factory ammo per year, it'll likely outlast you. And it likely has acceptable deer accuracy (as you already reported). Hopefully that will continue to be true as you shoot more rounds through it.

But, if you abuse it even a little, and put overpresssure handloads through it ever, you may end up with issues, ...but it's still a bit early to tell. I think the rifle's only been on the market for 6 years or so.

What I've seen and read puts the 770 in the utilitarian camp. Not a work of art, but a sensible tool with a removeable box magazine. A couple boxes of ammo per year and normal care and cleaning should make the gun a decent deer rifle especially as an entry gun.

I'd check and tighten up all the scope mounting hardware. Enjoy.
