Best Muzzleloader?
If you were going to buy a new muzzleloader what would you buy? Keep in mind I am not on an unlimited budget but at the same time want a quality gun that will last a long time. Any scope suggestions would be appreciated too. Thanks

I use two smoke poles. I use my TC Triumph on stand and a CVA Wolf in heavy cover and on drives. I have confidence in both at reasonable black powder distances. The CVA has a shorter barrel and quick to point for quick action at closer ranges.
Both firearms are easy to care for and have never let me down. Good luck! |
I love the T/C Triumph.......as far as scope I love the Leupold VX-II 3-9x40
|
I'd personally buy a CVA Accura V2.

Out of all the muzzle loaders I have owned in the past, the most accurate one I ever shot is a Thompson Center Black Diamond XR, it is the only muzzleloader I currently have now and I have no intentions of ever replacing it. I used to have a scope on it years ago when I first got it, I had a fixed 4x Leupold on it. With the scope it would out shoot alot of bolt guns I have been arround, as a matter of fact I took it to the range and bet one of my buddies gun for gun that it would out shoot his 243 Rem. pump, I came home with a nice 243 that day. In Idaho we are not alowed to use a scope, cant use saboted bullets, and the primer has to be exposed, so I really dont hunt with it anymore but I do take it to the range every now and then. If you can find one, you wont be disapointed.

Thanks for the info folks! That helps me alot. I will be chasing mulies in western KS this fall with whatever muzzleloader i decide on. We can use scopes and the modern accessories so I am hopeful to put down a biggin.
Also thank you for you political views Bigbulls...we need more hard working conservatives like yourself that will stand up for the BS thats going on in Washington right now. |
I really like the Knight Mountaineer. Very solid rifle with great balance and accuracy!! Great looking gun to boot!!
|
I have really enjoyed my TC Omega.
|
I have the traditions pursuit pro. I have had it for several years and love it.
|
I'd 2nd the T/C Omega. The base model Z5 is around $300. It's a simple rifle of a handy size and it works well, and with a good warranty. It's usually my 1st recommendation, but of course there are several great inline MLs out there. Whatever you decide on, make sure to do it right the first time. When you've narrowed your choices down after handling some of them, ask more particular questions to help make your final decision. There is a black powder section on this forum just below the firearms forum here where you might find more advice. Welcome to muzzleloading. It's a great way to hunt.
|
T/C Omega for me as well. Great price and very accurate.
|
While it's not the only good choice out there, the T/C Omega is the only way I'd go.
I'd top it off with a Burris FFII or Vortex Viper scope mounted in Burris Signature Zee rings. |
I hunt the Flintlock season here in PA. In a flinter I'd go TC or custom.
General ML I have no idea but there is some good info posted. Good Luck in yer decision!:s4: |
Thompson Center 45 cal Hawken flintlock. looks great, very durable, and shoots lights out...mine has killed a lot of deer and other stuff.

In order to really answer that question, I would wonder where you want to hunt, what restrictions if any in that location on the kind of rifle action, projectile, powder, or ignition. Also I would wonder what distance you expect to shoot and whether optics are legal where you are at. Also I would ask you what preferences be it inline or traditional you might have.
IMO the very best muzzleloader on the market is a White Rifle. The problem is they are no longer made but can be had used. No rifle can match what my White rifles can do. While they are not new technology, they are dependable technology. No better conical shooting rifle is on the market then a White rifle in my experience. And while sabots seem to be the "way to go" these days.. you need to see what a 488 grain conical bullet does to a steel bullet trap down range. They hit like a hammer. If I wanted to scope a muzzleloader and shoot some extreme distances I would look at the Knight Mountaineer, Knight Disc, Knight Disc Extreme, T/C Omega, T/C Triumph, or CVA Accura. All of them with sabots are excellent shooting long range rifles. Get them in .50 caliber. If you are not going to scope the rifle, then consider a good quality sight. If you wanted Traditional Rifles I would look at the Lyman Great Plains Rifle for roundball, Lyman Trade Rifle for anything else. T/C makes a good rifle but they have gone crazy in price. Traditions makes a good traditional rifle as well. |
I'd 2nd the T/C Omega. The base model Z5 is around $300. |
jumped from a knight wolverine ,to a omega t/c , hands down the t /c is a better rifle , good luc on yer hunt fer power gun
|
T/C Encore
|
I would agree with Cayugad on the white. If you can find a TC X7 they are in my mind the best carrying ML today. Anything bought today will do the job just fine. Its like cars, some like chevy, some like ford. You should pick one out that you like and feels good to hold.
|
Love my TC Pro Hunter Encore. A little stiff $$ up front but oh the stuff you can add. Have you ever shot a shotgun, rifle, muzzleloader, 22 and a pistol with the same 2 lb trigger pull? And as a matter of fact the same trigger assembly.
daddus |
cant see it any other way, t/c omega, nikon scope WERKS!!!!!!!
|
That is an easy one CVA ACCURA V2 TH Stock and topped off with a Bushnell DOA 250
I have owned MANY MANY ML and The V2 is the most accurrate ML I have ever owned thats for sure and I have owned them all Knight / TC / White / Trad. / Rem and the V2 is my choice hands down. |
