Hi Guys
I am from South Africa and had a lengthy discussion with a friend of mine this morning. He wants to buy himself a new rifle and is looking for something that can do what a sniper rifle is suppose to do. He wants a gun that can shoot up to 500m and not blast the whole carcass away. So cannons are out of the question. What calibers would you suggest we test out?
He owns a farm in the Karoo (that is open prairy type landscape with very low vegetation) hence shooting long range is the norm rather than the exception. Shots made are normally from 300m upwards. Give us your 2 cents worth please

Are you looking for a Hunting rifle or a Sniper rifle?
If you are looking for a Sniper Rifle I would have to say. Cheytac M200 Intervention .408 Love that gun.

But if you are looking for a Good Hunting rifle. I would say A Cooper in a 6.5 x 284 but I like 280 or just good old 308 win.

But as for the Cheytac I am only recommending it for sport not any thing else. And the Cooper for hunting animals like dear or buffalo that is it.
