Welcome to the forum. I hope that we can help you decide on a new rifle. A few of questions that would help us give you good information.

1. What do you plan on hunting with this new rifle? Deer? Elk? Moose? Bears?
2. How far is a typical shot, and what is the longest shot that you might encounter?
3. Why do you want to change from using the .243?

Elk and Bear are on the list, hence the upgrade from the 243.

maybe a 30-06 in that tikka??

although a 270 with premium bullets can probably handle elk/bear, depending on size and range, took a big black bear with 150gr nosler partition 270.

Remington XCR II in 280 or mountain ss in 30.06. Personally I would take the XCR, make it 280 ackley and put thumbhole stock on it. Then use it for the rest of my days to let the air out of those bucks, bulls & bruins.

LadyK,

I would go with the .243's daddy. A .308 in a Savage 16/116FSS.

No. I live up here in Montana, I dont my self but my wife use's a 270 for Elk & Bear. I use a 300weatherby. I do have a 270 but that is just for antelope. and 308 for deer. And my 280 for everything else

As for the Tikka they are a very good gun for the price. and very accurate.
As for the scope just go with a good one. Don’t skimp on glass. you get what you pay for there.

I may just be sticking with the 243 for this year and focusing the money on a really nice scope. i can always put it on a bigger gun when i get one. in the mean time i might have to borrow a gun when out for bear(i can really feel comfotable shooting a bear with a 243) and elk id be fine within a certain range. ill let you all know when i make the final decision

your original 270 was a decent way to go, I'd go with the 280 but then I roll my own so ammo isn't an issue. I'd take a hard look at the ruger hawkeye, SS synthetic, got one in 7-08 and 358 win and both are decent feeling and handling guns. Yes I've owned tikka's, yes they shot very well, sub moa, but I didn't care for the feel of them hence they have been replaced with other models.
