I took a new Benelli Nova to the range yesterday to check patterns. I did all my shooting at a 50 yard target. Here is what I found. A 2 3/4 inch 00 buck put on average one more pellet on paper than did the 3 1/2 magnum 00 buck. The 2 3/4 also put more pellets closer to center than did the 3 1/2. I think the choke is a modified maybe or whatever comes standard with the Nova. I would have thought bigger was better but that is not the case. Anyone else find that the big loads don't perform as well?

I fired my test from a caldwell leadsled. I know alot of people fight a flinching problem but I do a good job at not flinching. I believe in making a good shot first and then checking for blood and bruises later.

First of all what will you be hunting?Next you'll have to try more than 1 choke.Buckshot loads regardless of pellet size/quantity or shell length are very particular about choke constriction. If the Nova has a vented barrel to reduce felt recoil that can cause problems with the wad column catching on the vent holes.
