Does anyone have any info on this caliber. My friend said he bought a .270 STW, and I thought he was talking about either the 7mm stw or the .270 WSM. But he said he it was a .270 STW. I just did a search on the internet and found out that they actually do have such a beast. The parent case is from an 8mm mag.
Does anyone have any experience, ballistics, or any available information about this caliber. I am very curious about it.
Thanks.

TREEDOG,
That is the same question that I asked him. " Are you sure it isn' t a .270 wsm, or maybe it was a 7mm STW" ? He said, " NO, it is a .270 STW, it was custom made" . I did a search on the internet and did find SOME info on this caliber, but not much. I will be going to Kentucky (where he lives) for opening day of bow (sept 6), then I will get a chance to see exactly what he is talking about.
The funny thing is, if it is actually a .270 STW, he is going to have some trouble finding ammo. He said he only has a few bullets left and he doesn' t reload. He bought the gun from another guy who had it custom made for him.

It is based on the 8mm Rem case. It should have ballistics very near or just a hair faster than the 270 Weatherby Mag. There is almost no difference between the 7mm STW and the 7MM Weatherby Mag. The difference should be simular in the 270 versions. That would be a close ball park comparision. It would also be close to the 270 WSM but a little faster. Maybe.

I would think the 270STW is a pure wildcat. The original ammo was probably loaded by the gunsmith. It' s not uncommom for gunsmiths to provide a few boxes of loaded ammo when you have a custom built wildcat. Just something to get you started. Load data and dies are also commonly provided.
