As a kid, I hunted with a 32. It did all I needed at that time. Hell, I could have killed most deer I've ever shot with it!

Quilly,
You haven't lived till you've been at KTP for Septemberfest. It runs the week of Labor Day. They have demonstrations and door prizes lots of stuff going on.

The .32 Win. special is a decent cartridge, based upon the old .32/40, one of the better 200-yard Schutzen rounds of the late 1800's. It is certainly every bit the equal of the 30/30 - "ain't a dime's worth of difference 'tween 'em"!! But, the .32 WS has a 1/16" twist, so be sure your barrl is in pristine condition, or accuracy may suffer!!

RE: .32 Winchester Special...good cartridge?

I have a question that many of us may want to know: how can one determine if a barrel (in this case of a 94 Winchester 32 Special) is in pristine condition short of firing it? What are the clues that a rifle's bore "has been shot out?" How thick should the riflings be? How well defined? How shiny should the bore be?

Thanks friends,
