UPS delivered my Hill Country Rifles custom build last Thursday.
Beautiful work!!! Left hand Stiller Predator action 24" Hart #4 barrel chambered in .300 Win. Mag. McMillan stock Swarovski Z3 3X10 Initial 3 shot group of .56" @ 100 yards with factory Hornady 180gr. Interlock's Can't wait to see what other factory loads will do.... Can't say enough about how good Matt Bettersworth at HCR has been to work with. This company truly is first class! Schoolcraft |
So...I am intrigued as I am also a southpaw...and many custom builders only build on right handed actions, mind telling us what it set you back?

Congratulations Schoolcraft !
We'd all love to get with HCR and have them build us our dream rifle from the ground up !!! Enjoy it................................ |
Looks great...except the bolt handle is on the wrong side and the barrel is too short!! hahah
|
It finished up a lot lighter than I thought it would.
8.15lbs. complete with scope and rings. I was guessing it would be about 8 3/4lbs. finished weight. Makes the recoil a bit more "tappy" than I expected......... |
Very nice setup!!!!

great looking rifle, and sounds like it's shooting well!

Sweet rifle! I'll give you a couple hundred for it if the recoil is determined to be too much. LOL

Very nice indeed! Congrats.

There was actually a mixup in the rifle build (totally my fault).
I originally ordered the McMillan Remington Hunter stock (the one pictured on the rifle), but then changed the order to the McMillan Remington Sporter stock (no monte carlo cheekpiece). Somehow my change got missed and the final product has the "Hunter" configuration on it. The monte carlo cheekpiece makes it pretty hard to get aligned the scope using the low Talley rings/bases. So, HCR already has the correct stock ordered for me, and I have the choice of a "standard fill" which will keep the total gun weight the same (8.15lbs.) or they can do it in a "magnum fill" which would add about 1/2lb. to the total weight. (8.65lbs.) So....which would you folks rather have? A .300 Win. Mag. with a total weight of 8.15lbs. or 8.65lbs.??? The lighter weight would be nice for carrying, but the 1/2lb. extra might take a little of the recoil out. I'm not really sure that 1/2lb. either way is gonna make any much difference in recoil or ease of carry........ Opinions? |
