Question Cheap 270?

I am wanting to get a boltaction 270 in the next few weeks and i am looking to spend $300 or less but i am considering up to $350. I have looked at savage axis, mossberg atr, and marlin xl7. The best i have found in this price range is the marlin XL7. Any recommendations or suggestions???

I was also looking at the remmy 710 and the axis more because i much prefer the removable box mag, is there any gun that might equal the Marlin XL7 but with a removable mag like this?

Stay far away from the Remington 710. Far...away... XL7's are good guns. On another note, you could easily find a good, used .270 in that price range. I'd look around for one if I were you.

Next level up IMO, with detachable box magazine.

I'm sure you can find it a little cheaper.

How does the savage 111 compare to the XL7 as far as performance and quality? I saw a couple used 111's for like $375, but this is kinda out of my budget.

Son - Get the Marlin if you must. But if it were me, I'd wait a bit and save the extra $ and get the Savage. Even if you have to put a deposit on it to hold it for a while.
Or, if that Savage looks like it was abused, keep saving and get a new one. Don't waste your money on junk. You will have a quality rifle for a long time so its worth saving for. Most shops I know will hold a gun for you if you keep making regular payments on it.

That's a pretty tight budget...especially when one considers you'll likely have to add glass...I'd save up for awhile longer and buy a little better, more reliable rifle as opposed to junk. The savage 111, Tikka T-3, Weatherby Vanguard, and Remington 700's are all good options.
