I've owned a couple of Marlin 336s, and still have one of them circa 1971. I will always have a Marlin in my collection. Nothing against Winchester or the others, I just stopped when I found what I wanted.

Thanks everyone. In fact dick's sporting goods has the marlin now for 399.00. I am thinking that is the way to go.

how about this..... new versus old?

I nice new shiny one that I can drag through the bruch,, lol or a proven, scratched up proven one.

Like I said, I can buy a brand new marlin for 400.00. Good price but are these new ones built to last so my grandkids can hunt with it?

I have a Marlin 336C that I bought new back in 1973 on sale for around $100 and I still own it today. I think the newer 336's with the safety is the way to go.

Marlin...I have 5 336's (2x 30-30, 44 Mag, 35 Rem and 32 Spec)...all shoot and handle well and are more accurate than the 2 Winny 94's I have in 30-30. The Marlins are a hair heavier, but that also helps tame recoil as little.
