Default Weatherby Vanguard

I know nothing about the new Model 70's; that said, I bought a Vanguard Synthetic( the $399 one) and have been amazed with its performance. The only change that has been made in this rifle is a trigger spring. That made all the difference in the world.The trigger now breaks cleanly at 2.5lbs.
With my hand loads it shoots cloverleafs at 100yds and is consistantly sub MOA at 200yds.
I have never been sorry that I chose Vanguard.
GOOD LUCK and GOOD SHOOTING!!!

I believe jigger, but I'd still choose the model 70 first.

Yeah I read alot of good things about the new model 70.The Van guard sporter is the one with the wood stock,it's a nice looking gun. Both felt nice but I'm partial to the Winchester myself.

I wish it had a detachable box magazine rather than a floor plate.

Otherwise this one would be on my short list in .270 Win;

You can't go wrong either way, my advice would be to handle each of them, and decide which one you like better, both of them are solid rifles.

This really is an "apples or oranges " comparison, since the Model 70 costs about twice as much as a Vanguard. But, although I really like the Vanguard/Howa, if the prices were equal, I would take the Model 70.
