Default 870 Question

Hey guys. I'm looking to pick up an 870(i'm using my dad's 870 right now). I'm also looking for an occasional-use deer weapon. I looked into slug barrels but can't seem to find them for 3 1/2" chambers. If I were to use a new 870 for waterfowl and deer, would I just have to get a 3" model? Thanks.

I am not sure about the bbl availability, but you will never be undergunned with a 3" (or in my opinion 2 3/4") 12 g. gun. I have never shot 3" slugs because a standard 23/4 is so dang devastating, and the extra shell size doesnt really compensate in the rapidly declining accuracy of all past about 75 yards (in an 870 type weapon). A fine slug gun regardless, though.

A 3" barrel will fit on a 3.5" receiver.

alright...seldom do i shoot 3 1/2s anyway....SOMETIMES for geese but usually a good 3" load is what I use.

Big Z I was reading on Cabelas and they said it would fit 2 3/4 and 3 but maybe they just forgot to mention 3 1/2.

Thanks!
