Can't go wrong with the .308 its an excellent caliber.

I'v got the tikka t3 lite in 7-mag and it is impossible to find a better action or trigger on any gun at any price. Yeah, it's a "plastic" stock....so what? If you're gonna buy a pretty gun....then buy a pretty gun (and I love pretty guns). If you want a four-wheel drive shootin' machine, for a very reasonable price, the tikka-lite will get you there.

My next gun is going to be .308 in rem model 7.

From now on, although my collection may vary somewhat on brands and models, At this point in my life I'm going to stick with the most popular rounds...and subsequently....the most economical ammo.

I don't understand the no love for the Tikka either. I don't own one but my cousin does in a 308 and it's a tack driving machine. If I didn't have two other 308's I'd have one.

I can,the Tikka T3 that I had high hopes for was a HUGE disappointment. It's the biggest POS I have ever bought over the counter. Let's us just say that I have more than a few firearms in my inventory and the Tikka is the only one I have taken back to the dealer and demanded my money back.
It shot patterns , not groups with factory ammo and various handloads.

I have a Remington Model Seven in .308 and absolutely love it. Mine is older with the 18 1/2in barrel and it shoots better than I can. Is it long range competition accurate? No, but then again neither am I lol! I feel comfortable shooting it out to 300yards and while I'm sure it will perform at further distances, I know I'm not capable of any consistency out past 300 yards so I keep my shots under that and I've killed Mule deer, Black Bear and Elk with that little rifle.

I have many rifles in many calibers to choose from: .223, 25-06, .270, 5mm, 6mm, 7mm, 8mm 30 carbine, 7.62x39, 7.62x54, .303, 30-30, .444Marlin, 30-06, 300win mag, 300WSM, 300 Weatherby Mag, and 90% of the time I grab the .308 when I go hunt.

it's just a great all around cartridge.

Honestly this is the first bad review I have heard from anyone who has actually owned one. My T3 Light in 7mm-08 was the best out of the box shooter I ever owned. It did everything I ever asked of it. Sorry to here you got a lemon.

I would put it to you as this , I would get a 308 , and a 223 or 243 fer yotes and plinkin what ever you decide buying 2 new guns is better than one that dose it all :s3:

If you can only have ONE gun that needs to be capable of pulling everything between coyotes up to caribou, then the .308win is a great choice.

Personally, I prefer to have multiple guns so each can be "perfectly" suited for its assignment, i.e. a designated coyote rifle, a designated bear rifle, a designated deer rifle, etc etc, but then again, I like variety.

Given your situation, I'd rather have a .223rem for coyotes, then a .300WSM for Caribou. Minimize the cost and pelt damage for smaller game, then bump up the power factor for the heavier game.

But then again, beware the man who only has one gun...
