When you are in dark timber looking up a tree at a blackbear that is in thick brush, a scope is real nice, especially with a lighted reticle. Trying to pick out a good shot on a black bear when your sights are blending in on the bear isnt easy. Scopes are very handy for this purpose.

That sounds like awesome optics, little spendy, but worth it. I read up on them and think i'm going with it. You can't go wrong with Leupold!

Forget the batteries. No batteries on a hunting firearm.

Take a look at the Trijicon TR21G or TR24G. No batteries to die, no electronics to break. The green post and triangle reticle is IMO the best reticle for lightning quick target acquisition and an unobstructed field of view and the green color is the last color to fade in low light.
