Default Anybody use short barrels on their shotguns for upland birds

Well the title pretty much says it.I'm thinking about using my 835 with the 24" tube/FO sights on grouse and such. Not sure if I should just go ahead and buy the 28" tube with 3 chokes or just get the 3 choke set.

I use a 26" barrel on both my 20 SxS & 12 O/U when I'm in tight cover.

Don't waste your money on an extra barrel.. 24" is plenty long enough, espeically for a big hog of a shotgun like the mossy 835..

I have a 21" barrel on my Rem 1100 turkey gun, and I have made TRIPLES on ducks and geese with it..It would be even better suited for upland game, but the guns I shoot upland game with have 2 barrels..

That's just what I was thinking.Around here I have good grouse numbers. They generally bust out when I get within about 20-25yds but the covers so thick you only have a second or two to get on them. The shorter barrel would help get on them quicker but I was concerned the short aiming plane might be a problem.I was going to try it for myself but I only have the Ulti full turkey choke which just patterns to tight so it really wouldn't tell me much one way or the other.

Put your IC choke tube in it and have a ball, Bernie...

The shorter sighting plane won't affect you on grouse..Think about this..Due to the action length, your sighting plane is probably about the same with your magnum pump gun as a side/side or over/under with 26 or 28 inch barrels...

Sounds good plus I can try the 3 chokes with BB and #4 buck for use on coyotes/varmints.The Ulti Full patterned pretty well with the BB's but all I got with 4 buck was the dreaded donut pattern. Thanks!
