Antelope/Goat/Sheep Rifle. What cailbers do you like?
 

I' ve have a 7mm rem mag for deer and elk, thinking of a getting another gun (light one at that) for smaller hoofed animals esp. antelope. What about the .243 or other calibers?

I use my 7mmstw' s for all my deer,pronghorn and bighorn hunting.

The 7mm mag is fine for those animals, especially for antelope. I like a cartridge that can reach out and touch them, and the antelope is usually a good ways out if hunting a desert. If it were me, I would stick with the 7MM.

If your thinking only of Antelope and mule deer 243,260 rem, 6.5x55, 7-08,270 win, 7 saum 270 wsm would all fit the bill.

I don' t have a problem carrying my 9lb(scoped) 7mmstws on sheep hunts but if weight is your primary concern consider the remington ti in 7mm-08.It will recoil less than a 270( which is a concern with a very light gun)and will shoot flat enough for your needs.I can' t recommend any weatherby(other than the vanguard which is a howa with a weatherby label) because I have owned two mark 5' s and feel that they simply weren' t worth the high price tag.My much cheaper 700' s outshot both of them.Weatherby ammunition is also very overpriced unless you use remington loads which are loaded to much lower velocities.(and are not available in 257wby mag anyway)

Seriously, that' s gotta be on your list, as well as the 7mm-08, .260, and .280. I wouldn' t go much smaller, and I' d personally avoid Weatherby because of the price.

Stubblejumper, looks like you ran across a Weatherby Arms sales rep.

Everyone, tread lightly around the agitated Mnhunter... when provoked he can launch into caustic diatribes about the comparative value of rifle makes, leaving the unfortunate target lost and confused.

Oh, and I sincerely doubt you had troubles with the Model 700 getting the cartridge to the chamber, Mnhunter. Hence, aside from amazing malfunctions, accuracy is in fact the most important consideration.
