270 win 140 grain good enough for elk?
I have a tikka t3 lite 270 Winchester and i shoot 140 grain accubond round with, i am wondering if that is enough gun for elk or should i try something else, and if so what would you suggest, i am not looking for something that is going to kick like a mule but i know there are other more powerful guns that will not have a whole lot of kick to them, so any suggestions would be helpful. Thanks

I would opt for a 140gr barnes TSX over the nosler. But I guarantee you, if you hit in the boiler room, he will die and probably 100% passthru.

Guaranteed the 270 is enough for elk. But to be safe I wouldn't want to try an bust a shoulder. Behind the shoulder would be better. If you want to go a bit heavier and not be kicked too hard you can always move up the the ol 30-06 with 180 Barnes TSX bullet.

Yup, it'll work....if you're a handloader I'd suggest you use the 160 grain partition.....but the 140 will do the job.

Absolutely it will kill an elk. Don't let any one tell you other wise.

Between my father and myself we've taken over 40 elk with a 270 win using 130 gr Speer boat tails. Not one time have we ever lost an elk and not very many occasions shot more than one or two shots. You don't even have to be a sniper to shoot elk with a 270 win. It will blow through both shoulders on a elk just like a 30-06 or any rifle at closer ranges. But who wants to waste meat? And if you build the right load it's flatter and over powering a lot of larger calibers at 500yds. Am I a 270 fan heck ya it was built for how I like to shoot. But I also like my 300 WM that's a honey with 165 grs. Threw that in there so it wouldn't seem bias. LOL
