in that case i had better go with a rpg!

I was very close at buying a 325 but opted to stay with the 338. One factor that really played a part in the decision to pass on the 325 is the number of bullet offerings and availabilty in favour of the .338 vs the 8mm. If a factory ammo shooter even more so the .338wm becomes a clearer option. I've shot both, IMO recoil differences I haven't felt.

Unless africa and dangerous game are on your list for this rifle then 338wm is your daddy. If not the 375h&h is a great option. In comparing similarily weight hunting rifles of a 338wm and 375H&H to me the 375 provides more push. Neither are crazy but neither are meek...either. If you can handle the bigger bullets in your 06 then should be able to work through these.

The fact you have a 06 already I'd personally opt to leave the 284-30cals and jump up, less cartridge overlap. JMO

I think if you can handle a .300win.mag. you can handle a .338win.mag/.375H&H.

If you get a .375, I'd certainly want a controlled feed action, ie winchester model 70 action...I'm waiting for win70 to make a synthetic/stainless in .375

even a .338 you may consider getting in a win70/controlled feed action, since you can effectively hunt dangerous game/brown bears with a .338 along with much of africa too.

I think the jury is still out on the .338RCM, it's the only RCM I think that has any chance, if you really want a .338, get the win.mag. or .340weatherby

I think 375 ammo is a bit more than .338, neither is cheap for a quality factory ammo, but the 375 isn't outrageous for the most part either.

If you want to stay in the realm of elk cartridges, I'd get a .338 over the .375

I'm not sure that I agree with this statement. Reason being most 338WM's come ported and I rarely see a 300WM ported. The ported 338WM I've shot I agree shoot a lot like a 300WM.

This of course being a 180gr in the 300 and 225gr in the 338.

The step up from a 300 wm and 338wm isn't that great. I'm taking apples to apples here: same gun, loaded similar and no brake/port or boss or whatever. Often the difference noticed comes via the head first not shoulder. I agree if you can honestly handle a 300 off the bench can work with a 338wm. FWIW i have a bummed shooting shoulder and recoil is not my friend. The 338wm for me isn't a range queen by any means but I can sit through it comfortably for a good range session, just like I can with a 300wm.

I have a couple .375s (H&H and Ruger), and a .338 Win Mag.

I find a fairly large difference in recoil between a .338 and a .375 unless the rifle weighs more than 10 pounds. In a light rifle the .375s will really get your attention! The .338 is a better elk cartridge. Unless you are planning a trip to Africa to hunt dangerous game you do not need (or want) a .375. I do like the idea of getting a rifle with controled round feed (Winchester or Ruger) if you decide on a .338 Win Mag or larger.

when i go turkey hunting i use 3.5" shells so, i guess i could handle the 375. i am seriously thinking about the 375 beacuse a alaskan bear hunt maybe in my future.

I swear my .340wb kicks harder than my 300win mag does with amuzzle brake, no brake on the .340wby btw.

both weigh about the same, possibly the win mag even ways more

the 300wm is wood stocked though, the .340wby synthetic

both kick, but noticeably different, very little.
