Does anyone know if anyone makes 28 ga. slugs? Was looking to buy my son a shotgun. Thanks for any help.

Don't know of anyone, are 28ga slugs legal in your state?

I think in most slug states 20ga is the smallest allowed for use on deer hunting.

May want to check your states regs...

btw if you're looking to buy a slug for your son, or anyone, that savage bolt action 20ga is a pretty sweet setup, at reasonable price.

28 gauge slugs...???...

I have 2 or 3..They were made by Remington in green paper casings back in the 40s or 50s...

As far as CURRENT ( or even recent) manufacture of 28 gauge slugs, I have never seen them anywhere, nor HEARD of any, including Canadian and European manufacture...

I'm not saying they do not exist, but I would be REAL surprised if they do...If so they would an expensive purchase from some obscure European source...

Take the above advice and get your boy a 20 gauge if he wants to hunt deer with a shotgun..There is an excellent selection of 20 gauge deer slugs/bullets available out there..

A friend of mine had a load that used two .455 (or so) round balls in a 28 Ga.....the standard load for the 28 Ga is 3/4 Oz but loading data goes up to 1 Oz........Sorry, I can't remember what the load was but with a little head scratching one might be able to figure it out.....he actually shot two round balls from his 28 Ga.....It was an O/U and he said he had four chances to hit his deer with two pulls of the trigger.....LOL

Personally the advice to go with the 20 Ga is good.

Thumbs up

Guys thanks for all your help, but my son is only 8 and a 20ga. would kick him like a mule. I did find a supplier for 28ga slugs, Stars and Stripes ammo. in Florida. $40 a box of 25.

The 20ga. would not kick him like a mule. I bought my first twelve gauge at ten. And used a 16 before that. If you tell him its gonna hurt him, it will. If you show him how to properly do it and show him how enjoyable it is, he would be just fine.

Now on to your question, youve been given some good info. And the price you found sounds pretty good. It'll also perform well on deer. I've seen them shut with .410 pumpkin balls, so good luck and keep us updated! Hope he gets one!

get him a good recoil pad like simms or pachmyer and that will really cut down on the recoil. proper shooting form will do the rest.
