Its definitely a solid reliable pistol. I had a chance to buy a new in box Italian version for $500 a few weeks back. But, too big for my needs. Go shoot as many models as you can, stick with name brands and you'll be good to go!!

Go to a shop and look at a bunch of makes & models. See what fits YOU best. Not going to enjoy practice to become competent with it. (if it's a carry weapon, you are going to practice right? Choose a few that feel best in your hand then eliminate them by features, etc.

My choice would be a Beretta 92, which I also shoot. But whichever you chose. Find one that fits your hand. Fit is very important.

Thanks Cuda, I am very close to pulling the trigger on the Beretta. ( excuse the pun ).

You cant go wrong with a Glock 19. I have 2 of them. One i keep with a tlr1 light on, the other for concealed carry. They shoot just as good as any other 9mm compact.

I was in a similar situation last year. I am a lifelong hunter, but new to the pistol thing. Mine is for home defense and fun at the range. (Getting a permit to carry a loaded weapon outside your home n MD is next to impossible.) I went and handled a bunch and settled on the XDM 9mm. It’s has been reliable and accurate at the range. I am happy with the purchase.
