I' m purchasing a .270 win and have it narrowed down to two options. I want a fairly light weight gun for antelope and mule deer. The first option is a Remington 700 Mountain rifle in a laminated stock / stainless. The second option is a used Sako Finnlite, also stainless synthetic. Although the Sako is used, it shows very little wear & I believe it was actually a factory demo gun. If I go with the Rem., I evetually could put a kevlar stock on it and reduce the weight further. The Sako is probably as light as it' s going to get. The Sako has a shorter barrel, 20 7/8 inches, while the Rem is 22 inches. Any opinios would be appreciated.

I' d go with the Sako if it is not to far out of your price range. Zeak

Go with the Sako an 1 1/8" is not going to make that much difference in velocity. Good luck.

You know I was on this ultralight kick, and was sorely disappointed by the finlight. The remington Ti model was ok. But finally found my huckleberry. Be smart, get the medallion. You won' t reget it. Right balance of wieght, and accuracy. And a lot less than that finlight. I have nothing against the the sakos. I just expected better accuracy than what I saw out of the ultralights.

Now I hate remingtons, but that Titanium model was ok. It got 1.5" groups consistently by a club member. Its lightweight made up for its medeocre accuracy.

Although I no longer own one...I am a big fan of the OLDER Rem 700' s. They are well balanced rifles, that seem to be fond of most bullets. However, the newer Remingtons are not winning me over. I handled a new 700 a while back, and don' t think they are of the same quality of the older ones.

Sako make a great gun, I have never shot a finnlight although or a 700 Mountain rifle. I do however have a Browning A bolt SS Stalker chambered in a 270 win and it is one fine shooting rifle. Very accurate and comfortable gun, not as picky as I am about what it stuffs out of the barrel (meaning it seems to almost shoot everything well, but I have my preferences). I just checked the specs on it and it weighs 6.11lbs, so pretty close to the others you mentioned. Not trying to confuse your decision, but you may want to take a look at one and see if it fits the bill. BTW, I do one 2 Rem 700 BDL' s and like them as well.

Go with the Remington ! I just ordered the mnt rifle in .270, everyone tells me I made the right choice.

I too would go with the SAKO. Although there' s a lot of sentiment to the contrary, you will NOT be hampered by the shorter barrel. I have owned two .270' s with 20" tubes, (Mann. Schoenauers) and a better mountain rifle has not been made!! Had 6X scopes on them, and killed mucho mulies and whitetails with them!!

Definitely the Finlight. For me it' s a no brainer. I don' t care for Remington to start with but I think the Sako is a class above the regulars regardless. Definitely the Finlight. Am I repeating myself? gg.
