youre not going to put a scope on it? sights are for shot guns, rifles are for shooting farther than 50yds and sights just dont cut it.

The short track is a sweet little gun, id love to have one in 308, for stalking swamps and ridges, personally I think the ugliest thing is a pretty blued/wood gun w/ blood, mud and dings on it, If I wanted to collect pretty stuff Id buy more guitars. guns are tools, not toys, tools should be up to some rough outdoor use.

Hmmm, did I say this WAS to be a hunting rife? It would more or less be a shooter at the range. have plenty for hunting use already so now it's all buying what's simply appealing rather than a necessity. Darn right! i dont know how to tell ya this pal but not everyone likes scoped guns..i like a little rifle with peep sights for thick stuff and on drives...sometimes you dont have time to serch a scope for crosshairs...and open sight isnt for shotguns...only.ive had a couple sweet little rifles with open sites...and yes i killed deer with em. although ive never seen a shalacked tree in the woods...and to me if i cant hunt with it ,,i dont want it.

yeah I realize a few people like sights, some people still like black powder cartridges too, doesnt make them practical. Scopes set on low power, 1-3X ,are not any harder, than open sights to get on target with. get one of your rifles with a scope set on 3X, and another with sights, stand about 10 feet from a small object and try to get a bead on em. IME the scope is actually quicker because you dont have to line up the front and back sights.

I say no gun is meant for the cabinet, a good looking gun only looks better with a scratch or two.

I went to the browning website to get a closer look at that pup. I have to say I would never own one. Just not my cup of tea. Looks like a shotgun.
I should have looked to see how much they weigh. They look heavy. I don't have any interest so I'm not going back to check. I also think the sights are way over the top. Is a standard rear sight just too small or what? Tom |
I don't care for the looks of it, but it's just my personal taste.. It's a little too "modernistic" for an old fart like me, I guess...My idea of an attractive semi auto rifle would be a Garand M1 or an L1A1...
Nothing wrong with using a PRETTY gun for hunting, though... I like walnut and blued metal..Life is too short to hunt with an ugly gun... Many hunters, like DBHog, could care less what thier firearm looks like as long as it gets the job done, and that's fine with me..Thank goodness we all have different opinions... In MY opinion, many firearms are things of BEAUTY, and so why not have your cake and eat it too... Pretty guns kill stuff just as efficiently as ugly guns do..If they happen to get a few honorable scars ( which they all eventually do) that just adds character.. |
After all, beauty is in the eye of the beholder - right ?
Stainless & synthetic for me................ah, a thing of beauty and industructable too ! |

so why would you by a hunting rifle if you aint gonna hunt with it? why dont you get one of those long octagonal barrels 45/70 sharps replicas that actually has sights that are designed for long range. make more sense as a cool safe queen /range gun. youd get every thing you want, one shot, pretty wood, and those lame sights you like so much:s4:

Stainless & synthetic for me................ah, a thing of beauty and industructable too ! I agree wholeheartedly with you, Sheridan.... AND having spent several hunting trips in the wilderness in Alaska and Canada, when my rifle was SOAKED every day, I will be the first one to admit the UTILITY of stainless, synthetic rifles.. My wood stocked, blued rifles functioned flawlessly and survived with no ill effects, but a SYN/STN rifle is certainly less worrisome under such conditions.. Just think about it.. If we all preferred blonde, big busted females, there would be LOTS of competition for them, and all of those sleek, slim, dark haired beauties would ignored... What a shame THAT would be........ |
