I use a 180 gr. bullet as a compromise for deer and black bear.

I think the easiest way to paraphrase would be:

-the lighter end of the spectrum
-whatever shoots best out of your rifle

Don' t just pick bullets at random, find the bullets that shoot the best out of your rifle. Beyond that, you won' t have any problem finding an ' 06 round that will kill a deer.
