i seen a very strange weatherby vanguard with a mauser claw chambered in .264 win mag. it was obviously a older gun so it just leaves me wondering, how old is this gun?

Are you sure it was a Vanguard you saw?....I'm not aware that the Vanguard ever had a claw extractor. As far as I know the Vanguard has always been a push feed Howa!
Weatherby did make their rifles on FN Mauser actions at one time....but I don't think it was chambered for the .264...

the rifle said weatherby vanguard on it, barrel said made in japan (so im guessing its factory but might be a japanease after market barrel if that even exists) and it looked and felt like my own weatherby vanguards. after some research i have also found that the rifle i have seen might be a harry lawson overhaul after seeing this http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/co...rarchyId=10473 but i have also seen a mauser clawed howa in 25-06 a few years ago but i didnt think it was a 1500 varient. so there is a chance someone was rebuilding existing bolts/selling new ones that resemble the old ruger m77 mk1. and as for the the .264 win mag chambering, apperently it was a offering several times in small year long production runs. will be giving weatherby a call some time next week to find out some more about this very strange vanguard.
