I have two of them; now, I assume when one says mountains it means there are bears in the area

Remington 700 mtlss 7-08 / leupold vxIII 2.5-8X w/ steel dual dovetail mounts. whole gun, w/ claw sling and ammo, weighs under 8lbs. Where I live, there is no flat land , its all mountains or swamps, I dont stalk much, but when I do, the remy is easy to carry all day long. The 11lb savage .50 , not so much.

I am also looking into turning an old Parker Hale 270-winchester into a mountain rifle. I am looking for information on barrels, gunsmith labor rates & stocks.
My main objective is to have a lightweight rifle that will be a pleasure to carry & shoot. I do not want this rifle to be a hard kicker. I also want it to shoot a good solid tight group.

remington 7600 in 35 whelen with a Leupold ontop with game reaper mounts...right now she got a vari-x II 3-9x40 on her...i think shes gunna get a VX-3 2.5-8x36 before fall though...shooting 225gr nosler accubonds...

as i rarely ever sit down for long in rifle seasons, its not going to be my last remington pump gun...

im not big on synthetic stocks...just dont like the feel or plain black look...the 7600 i got now is satin finished walnut..real classic looking rifle...my next is likely to be a 760 BDL in 308...shooting a hot loaded 165gr accubond..going to search for one this summer at the right price with the right wood...some of the BDLs arent real pretty and are plain looking guns with fancy basketweave checkering...but ive seen some with amazing wood...
