DO NOT GET THIS RIFLE. Two days ago I shot at a coyote and when I worked the bolt the bolt handle broke clean off of the bolt. The handle is press fitted on with glue is not welded or solid. This rifle is a piece of junk. As previously stated would be better for a doorstop or paper weight.

Yep they pretty much are just a throw away rifle. I wouldn't buy one. You can get a much better rifle which is a Savage Model 10 for right around the same price. Only a few dollars more at Walmart. The Savage also has the accu trigger which is very nice. The package at Walmart comes with a Simmons 8 point scope which would be decent until you could upgrade. There is no way I'd buy a Remington 770 when you can get the Savage which is a much better rifle for around the same price. Another better option is the Marlin XL-7 which is around $300 at gun shops here. That's without a scope but at the same time the package deal scopes usually aren't very good and you will probably want to upgrade them anyway. It also has a trigger similar to the accu trigger. Both of those options as well as even a Stevens 200 would be a much better choice than a 770. Heck, I'd take most of those over a Remington 700.

I think the comments made here sum up the quality of the Remington 770/710's.

You can find allot better rifle for the same amount of money. I'd look for a Rem 700 ADL that's twice the rifle as as the 770 if you want a Remington. I'd go get a Savage if I was looking for a no frills rifle..

About the only thing I agree with in the OP is the 270. That's a fine deer cartridge.

If that's the price you want to spend on a gun then get a marlin or a savage. The 770 is probly on the top of the list for the worst rifle of all-time

What's sad about this whole Remington deal. Remington for years had a great reputation, made great rifles and shotguns.Lately they are producing junk rifles with the 770/710 not to mention the 597's & the old 742's etc.Once these companies lose the trust of the customers it's hard to get it back.

My fear is they are going to ruin what the Marlin's are today.I've never been a lever action fan but Marlin makes a great lever gun.

The Model 7's, 700's and 870's are still great, They have cheapened the 870 with the Express model. Remington needs to wake up.

I have no experience with the newer Rem semi auto shotguns.I have a old 1100 from back in the early 70's and it's been a great shotgun. That was back when Remington was in their hay day.

No I'm not bashing Remington. I just wish they'd get their act together before it's to late.

You'd think Remington could get the hint, especially due to the number of custom rifles built on the 700 action.

I hope I didn't mess up..I just bought a model 700 ADL 270 Remington last night..

I own an 870 Remington 3 1/2 inch magnum..best shotgun I've ever owned..With the improved cylinder choke I can put slugs in the little red circle at 100 yds..and with my True Glow turkey choke I've killed turkeys.
Wonderful Shotgun
