Default Any Pre 64 Winchester M70 experts

Hi all,
I have recently come into possesion a Pre-64 Winchester M70 in .30-06 caliber. I've been told that this paticular gun is quite rare has it does not have iron sights. All pre-64 Winchesters came with iron sights with the exception of a limited quantity produced by winchester for a gun distributer called Gopher Stooting Supply. Hence this gun is labled a "Gopher Special" I was wondering if there is anyone out there that may have additional info on these "Gopher Specials".

Thanks

It is also common for the owners to remove the iron sights if they are not used. Possible also to be rebarreled? Not that cut and dry.

Yup. I'd be thinking there is a distinct possibility that could be the case.

Is gopher special stamped on the barrel or receiver?

There are no additional marking on the barrel refrencing "gopher special"
