Need opinions on bi-pods
 

Looking to buy a set of bi-pods for my VTR and not really sure what to go with. I'm looking at the Harris 6-9" and the 11-25".
I'm wanting them low enough to use on the bench but high enough to use while prairie dog hunting.
Anyone have a set they love for both uses or will I have to invest in two sizes? I also not sure if I should go with pivoting or solid base.

Any help is appreciated.

Buy THE 6-9, AND get a portable bench for shooting dogs from. Or build a bench.

I'd go 11-25 myself. The 13-27 is a bit too high for the bench, but an 11 would be fine. You can always use sandbags on a bench, you can't always have a bench out in the field. The height is worth it for sitting.

If you want anything higher than 13" I would opt for shooting sticks. Bipods are good for bench shooting but not so great for field position shooting from varying heights.

Won't you be shooting from a bench when you hunt PD's?

I strongly disagree with this opinion. The higher bipod is excellent for sitting position shooting and the lower height is good for prone. Bipods from the bench are OK if the bench height is OK, but not for all bench work due to their lack of any height adjustment except through the use of dirrerent height rear bags.

honestly I am just getting into the accuret shooting. When I had my Ars ammo was cheap and I had the mid set of shoot 30 rounds at 100 yards and if they all hit a 18x18 inch target I was doing good. Now with 50cent plus a round I have started looking for those tight groups. I am going to get another Ar early this spring and it comes with a 6-9. I do not care for the idea of using sand bags all the time at the range. would you shoot from the sand bag in the woods doubtful. I would try and get something that would do you shooting both target and at the dogs. Though it might not be easy. Though I would not get one that was ok for both but not great for either. You should be able to find one that will do both great or get two. If not go with the one that fit you the best for what you do the most. When I sighted in my muzzleloader a guy at the range ask me why I was shooting like I was. I was sitting on a 5 gallon bucket seat and had a camo painted tripod for a rest. This cause some issues with getting those perfect tight groups, but it was how I would be hunting. He thought that to be odd cause right beside me was a perfectly good bench, but that bench want be sitting there when I hunt.

At first I thought this was a joke, but after reading some of your other numerous posts I think you are a serious about making hunters look bad.

Get one that pivots in 6-9".
