Thompson Center Problems???

I have a T/C Encore in 270. I have never switched out the barrel and up until last season it worked just great. A couple of times last season it "dry-fired" the cartridge had a dimple on the primer, but it didn't fire. It is happening again this season. I had to reload and take another shot to get a doe last weekend.

Has anyone else had these problems and do you know of any possible remedies?

Hammer extentions can be the culprit. I have found them to be on a friends encore. Not a solide lockup the second. Oversized hinge pin can fix this.

Hard to say without troubleshooting.

Are you using factory ammo or reloads? How deep is the dimple in the primer? Have you tried another brand of ammo? you maybe have ammo problems not a gun problem,Everytime I've had miss fires they are usually ammo related.

I can't believe they have sold more than 6 of them.

No doubt, I can't believe even I got sucked into this hype.

I've used different ammo through the seasons (last - this) all factory, Remington, Winchester and Federal. All types had the problem.

I do have a hammer extension - so that's a possibility.

What is an "oversized hindge pin" and where do I get one?

Don't do it. But if you so desire. Go to a gunsmith and have him match that hole to the hinge. But again, I will stress, I have been down this road, and ended up with a 1100 dollar poke stalk. Sub 0.5MOA poke stalk.

Goose:
had the same problem with mine,,,,take the hammer extension off and take a flashlight and check your hammer over real well,,,my hammer was cracked and it finally broke last week,,,this has been a real problem with the encores and hammer extensions,,,quick fix= call t/c and tell them your problem,,,they will send you a prohunter hammer and just replace it yourself or take it to a local gunsmith,,,,,i have had my encore 5 yrs and would'nt trade it for anything! heres a website ,,,this guy knows encores inside and out,,,theres alot of good reading on how to tweak your gun for the best accuracy.Mike Bellm Custom TCs

I read a lot of negative info on the Encores. I bought a 50cal m/l not long after they first came out. I also purchased a 7mm-08 barrel. I use a hammer extension(forget what brand) and use both barrels every year without any problems at all. Do I just chalk it up as I got lucky? The 7mm-08 shoots fine, its no .5moa shooter or anything like that but 1" groups at 100 yards are the normal with the gun.

I guess my questions is, was there any difference between the original stuff and what they came out with later on or did I get the one rifle they made with zero issues and shoots well?

You're not the only one, some people got good ones. Unfortunately, a lot of people got bad ones too. It's not that they are all crap, the ones that are good are darn good. But the frequency of bad ones is way too high for me to ever want one, and if there's a problem unlike a bolt gun that can be bedded etc to fix it there's not much to be done.

1 inch groups at 100 yards. that means 2.5 inch groups at 300 yeards. thats not bad..
i know of a gun maker 46 years in the biz, $3,000-$20,000 bolt guns, and he saus he can get 4 inch groups at 700 yards on guns he builds. im talkin the best product you can buy, barrel, action, triggers, etc. so the encore is doing well... i guess owning one, and shooting one, is your best bet, versus not owning one and going off your buddies experience. your buddy might be a subpar shooter?
