Default Ruger Compact ?

I'm seriously considering purchasing a new Ruger Compact, but would like to get some input from y'all fellas before I close the deal.

Is there any particular caliber that rifle is chambered in better suited for the 16.5 inch barrel compromise?

Factory ammo is going to be used also.

Whitetail deer will be the largest animal the rifle will be used for. Most shots will be less than 200 yards.

Any advise, pros/cons, is greatly appreciated.

Id go with the 7mm-08 for that rifle and your situation. One of the hunters in our groups son has one and it groups the Winchester Power Pts very good at 100yards. I just watched him shoot it about 2 weeks ago. I shot it once and it was very pleasant.

Ive been really wanting to pick one up for the kids in 260 rem...I will carry it also on colder days when I wear a parka until they need it, considering my daughter has 5 years to go!

Another vote for a 7mm-08.

If you haven't shot a Compact, two big things to consider is the extra muzzle blast and short LOP, which IMO is too short for an average adult or even a teenager.

I was gonna say...7mm-08 as you've already seen recommended.

My wife has two...one is a .308 and the other is a 7mm-08. Either is fine although I like the 7mm-08 better.

We bought my wife one a few years back. Stainless/Laminated in 7mm08. She has killed probably 8 or so deer with that little rifle. It worked pretty good on a coyote that stuck her nose out.
Great little rifle.

I know this is an older thread but does anyone have anymore info on this little gun. I'm thinking of getting one in a 7mm-08. Also how is the new LC6 trigger? Thanks
