Default Obsolete ammo

I asked this question before and lost the info. Do you guys know where I could buy ammo for my Great Grandfathers Model '94 32-40? The gun is now mine and in mint condition having been shot once. I have the original box of shells with that one missing but would rather shoot other ammon than those.

NO doubt you could eventually find correct headstamped ammo for it. Your best bet would be to handload re-formed 30-30 brass, which is common as dirt and easy to work with. Have the gun checked out first to confirm it is a safe shooter but 32-40 is doable.

You can check out AuctionArms.com and find some there. It is rather spendy though and the ammo is collectible. It would be an excellent time to learn how to reload.

If you cared to get into handloading, Winchester 32-40 WCF brass can be bought at MidwayUSA for $30 per 50. It's a little pricey for W-W brass, but it is an unusual cartridge making the batch cost higher. But it is in stock and available.

A set of lee dies w/ shellholder is $27 at midsouth. Getchya some loading tools, start rolling your own, and the savings add up every shot.

In one of the previous Handloader magazines there is an excellent write up on the 32-40 and bullets for it. Also know that in the back of one of my AA loading manuals they have several recipes for it.
