help tame a 300 ultra mag
hey guys i need a little help..is it possible to get the recoil down to that of maybe a 270 ? i would apreciate any answers you care to give..bigbuckkiller29

Yep...buy a .270 or put on a muzzle break...

Get the best recoil pad made and then a muzzle brake would be the only way I know of taming it. Perhaps a smaller caliber with less recoil would really be the answer. 300 RUM is way more than needed for deer and if that is what you are hunting and want something that kicks like a .270 then trade that big boy in for something you will enjoy shooting.

They make a reduced power load that mimicks a 30-06. In the slightly heavier 300 ultra gun weight it would recoil nearly identical to the 270.

YOU really only have about two choices, muzzle break it or reduce the powder charge.. if you reload or know someone who does get them to tone it way way down... it's actually very simple procedure and only a few grains of powder if make a big difference.. the muzzle break will also help BUT it will become a loud machine.. maybe a combination of both...or the level 1 ammo will help also..

Get a muzzle brake or get some Remington power level I ammo in 150 grain AccuTip about the same performance as a 30/06

Unfortunately that happens with a lot of magnum shooters. Id trade it for a 30-06 and enjoy the 100's of different factory loads that are available. People hate the 30-06 because its so popular. its that way for a reason.

I had the 7mm ultramag and I put a custom break on it and it really knocked the kick down. The heavier the gun the better it is to handle. When shooting these large loads I rather the models like the Sendero which are heavy.
Ron I am curious of why you would want him to stay away from a muzzle break? |
Pretty universal reason way too loud. OK on the range with muffs but a real hearing loss machine if you shoot alot while hunting and don't use hearing protection.
