30-378 is cool, so is a 300RUM, But if your going custom Go 300 Tomahawk, 300 RUM Improved, take some taper out of the case put a 35 degree shoulder on it and then stuff it with a whole bunch of powder topped of with a 240 grain SMK goin 2900fps and hold on!! Why because it's really cool and kills anything you want really far away. Stickin with a factory gun I guess it really doesn't matter one way or the other if money isn't a concern. Both are accurate and ballistically close. Whichever you prefer or think you'll be the most happy with is what you should get. Non-Weatherby fans bash Weatherbys and Weatherby fans bash everything but Weatherbys. I like them all!!

I think that if I were looking for a big boomer, my first choice would be a .338 EDGE. It's a 300 RUM straight necked up to .338cal, versus the .338 RUM which Rem set the shoulder back to keep dummies from trying to cram a 300 RUM into a 338 RUM. Anyway, the 338 EDGE (aka 338-300 RUM), has a few more grains capacity, very close to the 338 Lapua Mag, without the super wide case and larger than standard mag bolt face. It'd be sporting a 28" tube with a Holland/Defensive Edge style brake. It'd be my "privacy" rifle... because one shot would cause everybody else at the range to leave, giving me my privacy!

I.ve taken deer to well beyond 1000 yards, switch to the 180 berger or even better the 200 gr wildcat bullet and it will easily take deer at 1 mile (1760 yards).

If all you wanna do is ask stupid questions so you can start flaming someone about something you can't comprehend, look elsewhere.

RUM... no belt and non radius shoulders.
But my honest opinion is cases the size of the RUM need a .338" diameter bullet or larger and cases as large as the 378 WBY need a .358" diameter bullet or larger. Anything smaller is way too much powder being squeezed into too small a hole and things like throat erosion become excessive.

I am not sure what your intent is with this rifle but if you want a rifle that drops animals on the spot at close or medium ranges or you want to have an extreme long range rig, the 338 cal will out perform the 30s with these larger cases.
Some of the new 338 cal Ballistic Coefficients are really impressive and those large cases can push them at impressive velocities.
If you are married to the 30 cal I would choose the 300 RUM in a 28" barrel and push something link the 200 grain accubond. 3200 fps is attainable and the .588 bc is hard to beat.
