ya i spent some time comparing the 2 at the store and the rem 700 had a much smoother action and in my opinion it seamed to be higher quality so I felt it was worth the extra $. I'm sure I would have been happy with the Stevens and they are probably both equally accurate guns but I felt better about the Remington

The most impotent thing is that I feel good about my purchase

True. Thats my thing, they dont do anything for me in my hands. Im sure they are excellent rifles.

Some of us drive Fords, some Chevys, and some Dodges.

I chose Remington 700 also. I love mine! But I wouldn't skimp and throw a bargain scope on a rifle that nice. Pay a little extra for some quality optics and you'll be glad you did.
