Just out of curiousity, Iv'e owned at least four Remington 700's and at least three different Remington .22's, all of them outstanding shooters and very accurate. In short, nothing but respect for the Remingtons. What is it about the 770 that has earned it so much bad press? Never had one so I have no idea. What about them was wrong? I had a used Savage in .223 for awhile and it wasn't much to look at, but it was very accurate, also, very heavy with out a bull barrel. It would not however, out shoot the 700's, so why so much favoritism for the Savages? Are they really that much better?----------

The 770 is a 710 with better makeup :D There are lots of bad reviews on them, but it's another way to get the guy who wants something cheap. Savages and stevens are well known for accuracy, just like the Remington 700. Sometimes either of these can be bad shooters...just none of the ones I've shot from either maker :D So basically, Savages simply shoot great, and the 770s have too many corners cut to be called a quality rifle.

Go for the Savage in 30-06. I wouldn't take a 710 or 770 even if it were given to me. They are junk, for the same price you can buy better quality rifles like the Savage, Marlin or Mossberg. For just a little more a Howa or Weatherby Vanguard. I'm not a big Remington fan due to many quality control issues over the last 10 years. I will say that the 700 ADL in 257 Roberts that I had for a while was a tack driver for a no frills gun.

My choice would be the Remington.

You can't go wrong with the savage, I have 5 of them they all shoot great. The gun is very under rated for the money.

i purchased a savage 110 243 youth model rifle for my 10yr ol daughter & that sum-beach out shot my rem 700 ls 270 & my 700 sps 708
so i went out & got myself a savage 114 7mag & sold both my remmys

As I said, Iv'e had a number of good Remingtons, a couple of them outstanding, but at present, my new 30-06 is a CZ American with the full length stock topped with a Burris Fullfield ll and it's definately a shooter. I just bought a CZ .22 also, so I guess there is life after Remington. Just feels strange because up until now, Iv'e always had a 700 in 06 and usually in a varmint caliber or a .300 also. But Iv'e talked to a lot of people and read a lot of reviews and really wanted the Mannlicher stock so went with the CZ's. I have heard, however, that the Savages are almost always accurate and dependable. From what the forum is saying, it sounds like the Savage would be the way to go. I'd suggest the CZ line, but they are a little pricey. I'll second going with the Savage----------

i bought a 110 in .270 last week and took it to the range 3 days ago , to see how "out of the box" accurate it was , i don't have my camera with me atm , but i would show you a 3-shot group just a hair over 1/2" @ 100yrds , and this is out of the box... my old Remington 710 couldn't even come close to it...

that and i absolutely love the accu-trigger savage has....

and this one actually came with a Bushnell scope not the Simmons , not sure if they made a running change in that line-up or not...

Savage in 30-06. The scope will be fine for the first year but I'd replace it in the off season.

How about a Weatherby Vanguard? Better built than both of the models you listed, plenty accurate and around $400 new.
