What' s your gun

RE: What' s your gun
ALL AROUND " GAMER" GUN? Not that terribly difficult as for " all around" you' re gonna have to go with a shotgun. Your choice, pump or auto. Your choice again, 20, 16 or 12 gauge. With two barrels, a rifled one with a cantilever mounted scope and a smoothbore one with screw in chokes.
Right?
Can' t be a rifle now can it, cause your gonna have a real tough time with a rifle on those flying game birds!

Where I hunt the 7mmrem mag is becoming the most popular cartridge. Most hunters here hunt elk ,moose and bear as well as deer and the 7mmmag is a great all purpose rifle for these species. It shoots flatter than the 30-06 and carries more downrange energy as well.I myself use the 7mmstw for deer, pronghorn and bighorn and use the 300ultramag for elk, moose and bear.

My primary: Ruger Mark II M-77 standard in .30-06 with a 4-16x32mm glass
My favorite: Marlin 1894 .44mag with iron sights, but it was the old man' s, so it doesn' t leave the safe much.
Between these two, and my new .45-70, Marlin 1895 Guide Gun with iron sights, I could pretty much equally well take any north american game (the .44mag lacks a little, but the way I load it, it would only lack in range, it' ll do the job on anything under 100yrds off---2238# sick bull buffalo at 40-50yrds, behind the ear, one shot and he hit the dirt).

I would say that still the most common all arounder is the 3006. Now I personally use a 7 Rem Mag and as stated prior it will shoot faster and flatter than the 06 and carries enough punch to bring down the game I hunt (Deer (WT & Mules), Lopers, Moose and Elk).

I have used my Remington 700 BDL in .30-06 for pretty much everything. Antelope in Wyoming, mule deer and elk in Colorado, and whitetails in Missouri. It' s truely an all-around good cartridge & gun combo.
It' s not the perfect gun for everything (I really enjoyed hunting antelope better with my .243) but a good choice none-the-less.
