I am looking at buying a 30-06 and wondering what your opionions were on the newer browning 30-06 or buying an old bolt action spring field and throwing a synthetic stock on that bad boy? I know the newer browning are accurate but I also know that the U.S. military guns are made to shoot 800 yards easly from watching shooting compitions

As the owner and fan of Springfields, I'd advise going with your Browning. Not because they are a better gun, just because there are so few good Springfields left.
If you have access to one that's been hacked already, go for it. You won't be disappointed.
But to take an intact military one and sporterize it, in my opinion, would be a shame.
In any case they are both good rifles. The Springfield has the advantage of about 60 to 80 years of experience over the Browning, but you wouldn't wear either of them out.
