Boys Names (Hunting/Firearm Related)

Do you guys have any suggestions as to good boy names that have to do with hunting/shooting?

Thanks

Tom

A kid in my son's little league was named Hunter...

thndrchiken 08-18-2009 11:11 AM

A friend of mine named his male dogs Glock and Winchester. Seriously though depends on how hardcore/historic you want to get. Would you be willing to name your boy after Joyce Hornady or Steve Primos?

bigbulls 08-18-2009 11:46 AM

I have known kids to be named Remington and Winchester.

How about Charlton after Charlton Heston?

Of course you always have Hunter. Maybe Dusty?

salukipv1 08-18-2009 12:33 PM

Berry after Barack? gun salesman of the year? lol.

statjunk 08-18-2009 12:40 PM

LOL. Needs to be interesting and maybe semi-normal. Hunter is just too common.

I've thought of Trigger but sounds like a dog's name.

How about Colt or Henry ? I think Colt would be a good name especially with a good middle name.

driftrider 08-18-2009 02:58 PM

How about Gunner? A friend of mine's boy has that name. I don't care for it, but it's not too strange, either.

The only other one that comes immediately to mind is "Buck." I don't know about you, but I don't like that one either. When we named our kids we considered more the effect that name would have on their future, the cruelty of kids, etc... I love hunting and guns, but not enough to inflict a silly name on one of my kids.

Good buddy of mine named his boy Barrett (Barrett Rifles of course was the inspiration).

elgallo114 08-18-2009 11:10 PM

You could name him magnum. Might help him get chicks later in life.

Swampdog 08-19-2009 02:35 AM

Some of those are gonna get the kid beat up in school... :s2:

thndrchiken 08-19-2009 06:17 AM

How about Peter or Paul with Mauser as the middle name?

By the way Trigger wouldn't be to bad, Trig is a fairly popular nickname.

Edcyclopedia 08-19-2009 08:48 AM

Jake...........
He's in my avatar!

bugsNbows 08-19-2009 08:51 AM

John Moses ???

statjunk 08-19-2009 09:16 AM

Thanks for the ideas guys. Colt is the best thus far.

I think I want to avoid people and brands. Want to stick mostly with things, ideas etc..

I thought of the name Oak but that was fired out the sky by the Misses.

Any other ideas?

Keep them coming.

Tom

P.S. I'm willing to consider hunting related terms in other languages too.

Edcyclopedia 08-19-2009 09:44 AM

Tom & Jake, now that's a Turkey hunters family right there!!

Adirondack Hunter 08-21-2009 07:40 PM

how about thrieohate thertyawtsicks forteeformagnym nienmilameater haha

or on a serious note, gage, otis(kinda bad), or if you wanna toughen him up just like that one country song, but instead of sue you could name him daisy

deke12ga 08-23-2009 11:52 AM

Drake, as in male ducks. Deke or Deek as is decoy but his full name could be Deacon...

will79 08-23-2009 10:42 PM

I've got a nephew named Remington. Ever since we were kids my brother always said when he had a son he would name him that. Guess he wasnt BS'n.

Pawildman 08-24-2009 07:28 AM

Doesn't Sarah Palin have a son named Track?? I thought that was unique and cool...

Edcyclopedia 08-24-2009 03:31 PM

George Costanza liked "7" or "Soda" (ha-ha)

handloader1 08-24-2009 05:13 PM

Archer, or Weatherby. Good luck.

driftrider 08-24-2009 05:22 PM

Archer... now there's a name I could give both a boy or a girl, without feeling like I'd screwed up their entire childhood with a silly or stupid novelty name.

Too bad I'm done having kids (permanently). Three is enough, especially when they're all 4 and under!

Mike

DannyD 08-26-2009 04:52 AM

I like Dakota for either a boy or girl

Teach Deer 08-27-2009 04:12 PM

My son is named DeForest...my nephew is named Samuel Colton (we all call him Colt)...a co-workers son is named Fisher.

Centaur 1 08-29-2009 07:21 AM

Colton is the best mentioned so far. How about Marlin, it worked for Marlin Perkins.

gethuntin 08-29-2009 07:07 PM

If i ever have a boy His first name would be; Bo and middle name Hunter.

RuLzU 08-30-2009 01:54 AM

Can't say I'm really hooked on any of the hunting names I've thought of.

Tom

genesis27:3 10-19-2010 10:19 AM

How about scout?

hillbillyhunter1 10-19-2010 10:29 AM

A name I really considered was Cooper....

My son's middle name is Wade...he just turned three and has now caught 24 fish...

Backwoods7 10-19-2010 12:14 PM

Hat about Steven after Stevens firearms

DrHouse 10-20-2010 04:01 AM

This thread is classic! I've always theatened the misses that if I have a boy his name is going to be Hunter Rambo Smith

Ruger-Redhawk 10-20-2010 06:07 AM

Quickdraw sounds neat.

accman 10-20-2010 06:54 AM

Sorry guys, the only gun I've really ever used for deer hunting is my Mannlicher Schoenauer, and that's out of the question. (LOL)
I had a friend who named his kid Tracker. Hunter, Spike, Tine, are some of the ones that come to mind.

Nomercy448 10-21-2010 05:44 PM

I didn't read all of the other suggestions, but honestly, please pick your kid's name very carefully.

My family is one of the biggest names in professional rodeo, so they named me something very "western". It's great when I'm at a rodeo, or around ranchers, etc, but when I was in engineering school, or when I'm at professional meetings now, it's very out of context, and people ALWAYS comment on it. It's not insulting, but it's distracting, when I'm trying to work on deals worth millions of dollars to have someone make random conversation about how I got a name like that.

Fairly common names like Colt or Hunter or Marshall are great, but something like Remington, or Ruger (yeah, I've actually met a guy named Ruger, naturally the first thing I said is that "oh man, I have a bunch of ruger guns"-and he hated it! His dad was a shooter, he's NOT) or any of those other random weird names are just a pain in the butt. It's great for creativity, and it seems like a good idea, but honestly, "Gunner" or "Remington" isn't good for a professional adult. If I'm a hiring manager going through resume's, then both "Shaniqua Johnson" and "Gunner Jones" are both going in the trash without getting read.
