I have a friend who just picked up one of these in .243. I helped him scope it up with a Bushy Elite 4200 3-9 X 40. It seems like a great package. It shot well at the range, but I was shocked to see the plastic trigger guard. :s1:

How's that Pentax scope. Been seeing them at a good price lately and was wondering how the glass stacked up?

Where did you find a new ADL these days? Rem hasn't made the ADL for like 3 or 4 years. I'd be you got a good price. The ADL's were a good little rifle for not much money. I had one in .243 that I bought on clearance from Wal-Mart when they discontinued selling guns. I'd still have it, but I sold it for more than I paid.

Yeah, they discontinued them for a while... They must be making new ones, though. Don't know whether it's a limited run or something more permanent. I got it at Academy here in Houston. Academy had them in their weekly ads for the last two weeks. They had them chambered for a variety of cartridges. A couple each in .243, .270, .30-06, .308, and 7mm Rem Mag, and a lone 7mm-08.
Price was $439, with a mail-in rebate from Remington of $40... so, net $399. Quite a bit more than I paid for my .243 a couple years back ($249), but still not unreasonable. Note that the Remington Rebate Form says it's for 700 SPS and 700 ADL models, and for purchases between 8/1/09 and 12/31/09, so, that seems to indicate that they must be making new ones, even though they don't list them on their website. My only complaint about it is that their standard cartridge chamberings all come with a 24" barrel, and the Magnum with a 26". I can't imagine that you need a 24" barrel to get full advantage of a short-action cartridge, and the longer barrels are a bit of an inconvenience when hunting from a box blind. I may eventually take it to a good gunsmith and have them cut it back to somewhere between 20" and 22". |
It's just my preference but with the QC issues Remington has had over the past few years, I'd just as soon spend the extra $100 and buy a Ruger. By the way does anyone even know who owns Remington now? I've had two bad customer service experiences with them and personally will not buy another Remington. New, used or whatever. Then again my preference does favor the mauser action.
