300 win mag or 300 wsm

Default 300 win mag or 300 wsm

Ok I'm going with the BAR now need to know real world diffrence between 300 wm and wsm will be used for deer sized game maybe elk one day

They are so close it wouldn't make a difference. The one thing that does make a difference is availability. The 300 win mag has a lot more available factory ammo. If you reload no big deal.

If reloading wouldn't it be better to go with the WM because of the case capacity?

The only real difference is the receiver size. With the WSM you can get a short action receiver this will give you a slightly more compact hunting rig depending on the barrel length. Other than that they are both so close in performance it's a coin toss.

You can always get one of each...that's what I did.

I have both, but would rather go with a win mag. I can get 3100fps with a 180gr BT and RL22 with a 24" barrel. I have yet to see too many do that with a WSM.

The 300 WSM is midway between the 30/'06 and the 300 Win. Mag. IF you plan to hunt elk some day, I'd choose the Win Mag. It can be handloaded to beat the WSM.
